5th Grade Math
Your child will have Mrs. Jill Knott or Mrs. Jane Thomas for math this year.
Mrs. Jill Knott
My goal for the year is to capture every student's attention to have the vocabulary and knowledge of math so they can achieve excellence in the real world. I love teaching Math.
A little bit about ME - I have taught 31 years at Lipscomb Academy. I have never even thought about changing from 5th grade. I love this age. I graduated from David Lipscomb College in 1974 with a degree in Home Economics Education. I married the most patient man in the world, Michael Knott, forty-one years ago. We have four children. Michael, Jr. who is in the Navy, Karen who is a ELL coach in Metro, David who works in construction, and Mackenzie who is an ELL teacher in Metro. After staying home with my first three children I decided to go back to school and get my Elementary Certification. After starting to teach in 1983, I went to school and got my master's in Curriculum and Instruction. I am also Granny to four precious children, Grace, Isabella, Sam, and Joseph.
Mrs. Jane Thomas
My promise to everyone of my math students is that they will leave my classroom at the end of the year feeling more confident about their math ability than they were when they entered. I find that 5th graders tend to be at a wide variety of levels when it comes to math. I try my best to meet them where they are and bring them forward from that point. My favorite part of teaching math is to see the look on a child's face when they finally grasp a concept that has caused them to struggle. That is the joy of being a teacher.
A little bit about ME - This is my 18th year as a classroom teacher with 14 of those being at Lipscomb. I have taught in 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. I LOVE middle school! It is my heart. I think middle school students are wonderful people who are in the most important developmental period of their lives. It is a JOY to teach at Lipscomb.. My husband Jeff and I met at Lipscomb University, and he is a Lipscomb 'lifer" as are both of our children. Our son, John Logan is a 3rd year Meteorology major at Western Kentucky University, and our daughter, McCarley, is a Freshman at Lipscomb University where she is majoring in English Education and a member of the Lady Bisons softball team. I am looking forward to a wonderful year with your child.
