Greetings! I hope everyone is excited about the new school year. As for me, I am discovering every day how to make the Bible curriculum more meaningful with the help of the iPad. I am also preparing for the fall middle school tennis season. Oh and at home, I am learning about the joys and challenges of being a father!
Allow me to introduce myself: My name is Adam Abood and I teach 7th grade Bible. This is my eighth year in the position. I grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire and came to Nashville in the fall of 2001 as a freshman at Lipscomb University. I have remained connected to Lipscomb since that time. At this time my work goes beyond the classroom at Lipscomb: I currently coach middle school tennis, offer a Smoky Mountain fly-fishing course in June, and help lead a mission trip to Jamaica in the spring. At the West End church, I help serve the youth and have been involved in a Friendspeak program over the past several years. And finally my family... I am married to a wonderful woman named Carrie. Together we have a daughter, Eden, who is a little over four months old and a cat named Grimalkin.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching. There is something very special about helping someone gain understanding, especially when you know that the new understanding is likely going to impact the person's life. And this is exactly what so much of God's word does to us! I believe that the information the students and I will study in class is meaningful and has the power to change our lives.
My desire is that the students will leave my class with a better understanding of the larger Biblical narrative. I also intend for students to understand who Jesus is and what it means to follow him. I seek to accomplish this through an overview of Old Testament themes and an in-depth study of the Gospel of Matthew. I plan to use a variety of teaching methods and assignments in this endeavor. For at some point in the next several years, each student will have to decide what to do with Jesus' invitation: accept it as "life in full abundance" and live faithfully to his teachings, or abandon it and live according to a different story.
This year, please help me teach and model the good life that God has called us to!
