Scott Broadway World Geography
I am excited to be returning to Lipscomb, having graduated from the University in 1992, and am very excited to have the opportunity to teach students about the world in which we live!
I have always loved history and been fascinated by different cultures ... which may explain how I came to travel so much and live in such a wide variety of locations ... from the North (Pennsylvania), to the South (North Carolina and Tennessee) - Eastern Europe (Kiev, Ukraine) to the West Coast (California) ... and even a semester in London, England. These very different places have offered me varying perspectives on the world. Having been afforded the opportunity to live in "foreign" places on a number of occasions, I have emerged with a "bigger" picture of the world, and appreciation for the diversity reflected in it.
This year I will endeavor to help expand the perspectives of our seventh grade students as we consider the various cultures that comprise life on the planet Earth. We will take a regional approach to geography, examining how physical geography, history, and culture are intertwined on each of the continents. It will be an exciting year - as I will strive to incorporate a variety of instructional methods to accommodate the various learning styles students, and utilize technology in the classroom to generate excitement about access to information, and what can be done with it.
A goal for me, as we consider the "shrinking" world of the 21st Century, is to give each student a "passport to the world" - equipping them to understand the world in which we live, and in which they will be working, generating compassion for people who are "not like us," and preparing them to successfully navigate a world in which they may be required to regularly interact with people of a different culture.
