My name is Moriah Farmer and I am thrilled to be the Middle School's Technology Integration Specialist.
I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, and attended Abilene Christian University from 2001-2005. I met Blake Farmer, a Nashville native and David Lipscomb alum, my freshman year at ACU and we were married May 30, 2005. We've lived in Nashville since we got married and we have one child, Maverick, who is really a five year old Golden Retriever.
Blake and I are life group leaders and teach in the Children's Ministry at Otter Creek. I received a Master's Degree in Educational Technology from the University of Missouri in 2009. Up until this summer I taught Middle School and High School Technology classes as well as two Summer Academy Keyboarding classes.
I'm sure you're thinking, Technology Integration Specialist... what exactly does that mean? We made the decision to remove computer classes from the Encore (formerly Special Areas) rotation for one main reason: Integrating technology into the core curriculum makes more sense than having computer as a stand alone class. Our students need to see how technology can help them in everyday situations, and what better way than to integrate it into all their classes.
Two years ago group of six teachers, Lisa Bruce, Phil Sanders, Anne Lowery, and Dr. Hammond spent months developing a Technology Plan for Lipscomb Academy. This plan covers technology initiatives that each grade level will have to implement somewhere in their curriculum. My job will be to help the Middle School teachers create meaningful technology experiences that meet those requirements.
If everything goes as planned, I will see your children more often than when they had computer as a part of Encore... which I am really excited about! I truly love working with Middle School students and I'm so excited that I get to spend all my time with them this year. I'm also excited that your children will be able to work on all their technology projects on brand new Dual-Platform iMacs! My lab received 28 brand new iMacs last summer and they are ready to get lots of use!
If you have any questions about the Technology Plan or Acceptable Use Policies listed below, please don't hesitate to contact me! I'm looking forward to working with your children this year, and for years to come!
