Mrs. King's English II and Honors English II
My Family
Hello and welcome to English II and Honors English II. I am Jennifer King, and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I am looking forward to a year of challenging and enjoying your children. This will be my fifteenth year teaching English at the high school level, and I feel extremely blessed to teach here at Lipscomb. I have an undergraduate degree in English Education with a minor in history and a Master's Degree in Supervision and Administration from Lipscomb University.
One of the English Department’s goals is to prepare your child for college, and the sophomore year is an extremely important step in your child’s academic journey. We will be writing four formal essays, concentrating on the process of writing. We will also be writing numerous paragraphs both in and out of class, focusing on literary analysis. During the second semester, we will complete a research project, emphasizing the process of research.
Our vocabulary will be words based on Greek roots, and we will read various excerpts from major American authors, which will help improve your child’s reading comprehension, analytical skills, and critical thinking as well as provide opportunities to discuss Christian life principles.
With college preparation being a priority, we will also be undertaking a thorough study of grammar to not only strengthen your child’s writing abilities but also to prepare him or her for the ACT during the junior year.
Most importantly, I hope to help your child develop a love for Christ and a character that reflects that love. I will be praying for your child, and I hope that this year will be a time of spiritual growth for him or her.
Your child’s weekly assignments and grades will be posted on RenWeb every Friday. Tests, essays, and projects sometimes take longer to grade, but I will post them as soon as I finish grading them. If your child misses more than two assignments, I will e-mail you to be sure that you are aware of the situation.
If you need me, please e-mail me at [email protected], or call me on my Lipscomb extension (966-5242).
