Hi! My name is Mrs. Reed and I am the new 7th grade science teacher at Lipscomb Academy! How blessed I am to have your students this year in my class! :) Their excitement for learning and enthusiasm truly inspire me. I am looking forward to learning more about each one and can't wait to see the amazing gifts and God-given talents they bring to the classroom.
I just got married this summer in June to Benton Reed (that handsome guy on the left). We met at Lipscomb University and ran cross-country and track together! I am so blessed to be married to this wonderful man of God. He is my encourager and supporter in everything I do and I am so happy that I get to be his wife! :)
I love to teach, and I believe this will lead my students to a love to learn. My philosophy of teaching is comprised of many different ideas and strategies. First, I believe that all children can learn. Every child has the ability to get better at something, to strive for something, and to do their very best in everything they do. Second, I believe children learn in a variety of ways. Some are auditory learners, others learn visually, and others learn by doing. Their are many more ways of learning, but these seem to be the most common. I will work hard to incorporate the different ways of learning within each lesson. Third, I believe that learning can always be fun. Even the most tedious and seemingly-boring tasks can be made fun! I want science to be so much fun for these students that they all want to know more about the subjects on their own time! :) I know for a fact that there are doctors, nurses, researchers, physicists, biologists, and engineers in my class. I also know that their are artists, athletes, singers, teachers, writers, historians, and mathematicians in my class. I will teach to all the different learners in my class.
The books we will be using are from Glencoe Science and are the following:
1. Life's Structure and Function
2. Ecology
3. Animal Diversity
4. From Bacteria to Plants
5 Human Body Systems
A brief description of the what we will be doing:
In class, students will learn through whole class instruction, partner work, small groups, and independent learning. We will perform experiments and labs, create cells and ecosystems, research a variety of topics using the iPad, and make new discoveries every day. Students will take charge of their own learning by participating in one project per quarter. These projects will be done mostly during the class time with the group that they are working with. Every morning, students will work independently for 5-7 minutes to review a subject they read about, watched a video on, or listened to the night before. This activity will help the students put down on paper, or on their iPad, what they learned about the night before.
I'm excited about this year! Please email me if you have any questions!
