Melissa Collins
I have been at Lipscomb since fall 2006. I teach general music to pre-kindergarten through fourth grade and also direct the
elementary chorus. I earned a B.A. in Music Education and a M.Ed. in Instructional Leadership, both from Lipscomb University. I love teaching at a Christian school because everyone can speak freely about Christ, and students and faculty can worship Him together. My overall mission is for students to love and enjoy music as a gift from God. I am blessed to see their talents and abilities develop over the years. I am originally from Opelika, Alabama and enjoy playing clarinet, recorders, piano, singing, reading, art, exercising, and traveling. I also love my sweet cat Zorro. I am very excited about the new school year and cannot wait to spend time with the students.

What do students learn in Music Class?
Students at Lipscomb Academy Elementary School learn that we can glorify our Creator by using the gifts He has given us. Students are provided an active and hands-on education that utilizes the voice, playing instruments, listening, and movement as teaching tools. The music curriculum relates with other subject areas to connect learning. Students use body percussion and movement to transfer skills to playing Orff instruments. They learn to sing expressively. Every grade level participates in musical performances throughout the year. The elementary school also hosts the Music Academy, which offers private instruction in a variety of instruments. The ultimate goal is to help students gain an appreciation and love for music.
