Welcome to my page! I teach 5th grade general music, 5th grade Chorus, 6th grade Chorus (With Suzanne Craig), and 7th/8th grade Chorus. Along with those Middle School classes, I am also the assistant choral director for our two High School choruses, and I choreograph and teach music for the Middle and High School musicals. If you can't tell, I love to sing and dance!
A native Nashvillian, I grew up attending Bellevue Church of Christ. Now, back in Nashville after college, I am a member of Harpeth Hills Church of Christ, where you can frequently hear me singing on the praise team. My parents, Frank and Valle, still attend Bellevue.
I graduated from David Lipscomb High School in 2005 and went on to Harding University, where I majored in vocal music education. While attending Harding, I had the opportunity to sing in the Chorus for 4 years and travel with them to 9 countries in Europe and China. I hosted Spring Sing, Harding's annual musical review show, in 2007 and 2009. I also performed in 5 musicals, including playing the roles of Laurie in Oklahoma! and Millie in Thoroughly Modern Millie.
After graduating in 2009, I stayed in Searcy, Arkansas and taught for two years at Harding Academy. I am happy to be back at my alma mater, teaching what I think to be the funnest classes offered here at Lipscomb Academy! Here are some skills we will work on in my different classes:
5th Grade Music
-Listening to and performing world music
-Learning about popular American music
-Improvising with voices and instruments
-Writing our own songs with a computer program
5th Grade Chorus
-Learning to blend voices with approximately 30 other people
-Singing 2 or 3-part harmony
-Performing joint concerts with other Lipscomb choruses
7th/8th Grade Chorus
-Singing 4-part harmony
-Learning to sight-read music by integrating the Solfege system
-Performing concerts in chapel, for judges, and with other Middle Tennessee choirs
Here are some perks of doing the 5th Grade play and the 7th/8th Grade play:
5th Grade Play
-Students learn about American history from the 1900's-2000's
-They sing popular American music from those decades
-They act out famous American moments from our history
-There is a possibility of a singing solo for one boy and one girl
7th/8th Grade Play
-Students may have the opportunity to sing a solo if the show is a musical. (The 2012 show, Alice in Wonderland, is a musical)
-They learn choreography for a few of the scenes
-They learn great acting skills from our drama teacher and director, Suzanne Craig
-They make very close friends during the 2 months that we rehearse; we spend a LOT of time together after school!
-They learn great team work, acting as a group on stage
-They can be in the back stage crew (which we all know are the glue of any show)
